Meet the Musicians Violin
Orchestra member since 1997
Hometown: Natchitoches, Louisiana
Education: The Cleveland Institute of Music, Eastman School of Music
Studied with: David Cerone, David Updegraff, William Preucil
Instrument: Steve plays a 1704 Rogeri violin.
Aside from seeing Steve onstage at Severance Hall, you might find him at a ballpark--he coaches little league baseball--or in one of his favorite restaurants enjoying dinner with a glass of wine. He and his wife, Jeanne, who also plays violin in the orchestra, have two children, a son and daughter. Steve is a native of Louisiana, so in addition to many classical selections, he also includes some soulful southern jazz on his Ipod. One of Steve's most memorable performance experiences occurred in his youth. "I remember closing my eyes while playing and not realizing that I had turned around and had my back to the audience. The teacher came on stage to turn me back around." He is the head of the Violin Department at Cleveland Institute of Music, an active chamber musician, and a teacher at various summer festivals. In addition to the great quality of life Cleveland offers, Stephen admires the beautiful neighborhoods.
