Meet the Musicians Violin
Sonja Braaten Molloy
Orchestra member since 2000
Hometown: Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota
Education: The Cleveland Institute of Music
Studied with: Linda Cerone, David Updegraff, William Preucil
Instrument: Sonja plays a modern Italian violin she named Magnum. Her bow’s name is Excalibur.
A reluctant runner, Sonja enjoys french pop music, blues, Rufus Wainwright, Stevie Wonder and New Orleans style jazz. She plays piano (has performed with TCO in the keyboard section) and other people's violas when time and moment persist. Her family, husband, Owen and daughter, Annika, love a good road trip with their aloof dog, Oscar. When not cooking at home, some of Sonja's favorite restaurants include L'Albatros, Fire, B-Spot and the Greenhouse Tavern. She has lived in or near the Heights since 1994 and finds the Metroparks and Cleveland, in general, as a big city with a small town sense of community.
